60 minutes from the hotel, the Château de Beynac is one of the best preserved and renowned medieval castles in the Dordogne. Perched on top of a cliff, the castle watches over Beynac-et-Cazenac in the Périgord Noir.
A bit of history...
The origins of Château de Beynac date back to the 12th century when Maynard de Beynac ordered the construction of a simple keep on the side of a cliff, 150m above the Dordogne.
During the Hundred Years War and the Dordogne drew a natural border between France and England, the fortress of Beynac was an important stronghold for the French. On the other side of the Dordogne, the château de Castelnaud, rival de Beynac, is controlled by the English.
The visit of the castle
The visitor will be able to discover a magnificent Renaissance staircase in Florentine style, the Hall of the States where the four barons met, an authentic furnished room from the 17th century decorated with armor and tapestries or even the old kitchens from the 12th century...
