The International Center for Prehistory in Les Eyzies

The International Center for Prehistory in Les Eyzies is not a museum. It is the starting point to discover the various prehistoric sites of Périgord. A space for discovering prehistory where the visitor can dive into the heart of prehistory through an innovative scenography, films on giant screens, 3D models with touch screens, information terminals, but also cultural, artistic and educational exhibitions on the theme of prehistory and the Vézère Valley, conferences, shows and symposiums on the theme of prehistory. The educational space brings together, from the reconstruction of an archaeological excavation site, workshops around the sciences of archeology.

The Museum of Prehistory: a site-museum in the Dordogne

From the entrance hall of the Museum of Prehistory, the visitor is immersed in the heart of prehistory thanks to to an "Anthropological Frieze" of the emergence of man between 3.5 and 1.8 million years ago. A large gallery allows you to cross the centuries from – 400,000 years to – 10,000 years and to follow the evolution of cultures: first tools, portable arts, lifestyle of Neanderthal populations, appearance of modern man... visit continues in the Upper Gallery where reconstructions of a prehistoric hearth and sheltered habitats allow you to learn more about Neanderthal man.
