"the Sistine Chapel of parietal art"
Since 1963, the original Lascaux has been closed to ensure its preservation. Lascaux II is a facsimile of the original cave located 200 meters away, where it is possible to admire almost all of the paintings reproduced identically, to the nearest millimeter (same paints, techniques and pigments...).
The works of Lascaux represent aurochs, ibex deer horses, felines, but also a man with the head of a bird, the most enigmatic scene of Lascaux. All the galleries extend over 250 meters in length for a drop of about 30 meters.
Did you know?
The Lascaux cave was discovered by chance in 1940 by 4 teenagers from Montignac!
